Plenty of sun will warm up the city this week

A MILD, sunny week with the temperature climbing to double digits was forecast by the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.

Fu Yi, a chief service officer of the bureau, said the high will reach 10 degrees Celsius today although it will still be cold in the morning.

Tomorrow and Wednesday will remain sunny and it will warm up to 13 degrees with a low of 2. Thursday and Friday may hit a high of 14 degrees with a low of 6 degrees although cloudy skies are expected, according to the bureau.

Yesterday was the third straight day with temperatures below zero. Fengxian District recorded the city’s lowest temperature at minus 4.7 degrees. Most suburban districts recorded lows ranging from minus 4 to minus 2 degrees.

Shrouded by smog due to a lack of wind, Sunday’s air quality reached a moderately polluted level with an AQI of 189 at 8pm. The density of the main pollutant PM2.5 peaked at 200 micrograms per cubic meter at 11am.

The Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center said the AQI is forecast to range between 225 and 245 this morning, indicating heavily polluted air. The center recommended residents limit outdoor activities and added that the AQI will drop as the day progresses.
