Police nab US$10m fugitive at rail station

A FUGITIVE linked to a 10 million yuan (US$1.6 million) fraud who has been on the run for more than a year was detained yesterday at the Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station.

Shanghai railway police said they received a tip-off that the man, surnamed Liu, was planning to travel to Changsha, capital of central China’s Hunan Province, on the 8:53am train.

A team was sent to surveil the area and spotted a man acting suspiciously. He was overheard telling someone over the phone that police were on the train and that the person should change the ticket.

Liu was then spotted at the ticket counter and officers moved in to detain him.

Liu is being held pending a transfer to Shandong where he is wanted, police said.
