Pregnancy hope for cancer patients

A specialist medical center is giving more women with cervical cancer a reason to be optimistic about the possibility of having children.

Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center has announced that it has expanded the range of patients eligible for a fertility-preserving surgical procedure that removes the cancerous tissue while leaving the womb intact. The decision increases the percentage of patients eligible for the procedure from 18 to 36 percent.

Women who are under age 45 and have a tumor that is less than 4 centimeters in diameter and not highly malignant can now apply to have the procedure, said the center.
