Progress continues on railway station's transportation hub
TRAVELERS will be able to change between trains, long-distance buses and subway in an underground space this April when Shanghai Railway Station's North Square transportation hub is completed.
Construction was finished on the hub's main structure yesterday morning.
"When the North Square project is completed, passengers will be able to transfer between several means of transport in the wide underground space on the first basement floor of the railway station," according to Bao Dahua, the project engineer.
With a height of 5.4 meters, the first basement hall will also be accessible by taxis.
The second basement floor will be a parking lot, according to Shanghai No. 2 Construction Co under Shanghai Construction Group.
Officials said the project will ease traffic pressure on South Square as North Square will be bigger.
Also yesterday, Shanghai Railway Station announced it will start selling tickets for travel during the Spring Festival on Wednesday.
Ticket sales are expected to peak from January 26 to February 1.
About 200,000 tickets are forecast to be sold on each of those days, the station said.
The Spring Festival begins on February 14 this year.
