Pudong airport opens check-in terminal in Kunshan

AIR travelers from neighboring Jiangsu Province will have a smoother journey aboard as Shanghai Pudong International Airport opened a check-in terminal today in the province's Kunshan City.

Passengers can check in at the new terminal up to 24 hours before boarding. Shuttle buses will take them straight to the Pudong airport in 90 minutes if highway traffic is smooth.

So far only China Eastern Airlines and Shanghai Airlines offer check-in services at the Kunshan terminal. Shanghai airport authorities are talking with other airlines, including international carriers, to open counters there.

It's the first airport terminal outside Shanghai in the Yangtze River Delta region.

Pudong airport may have a third terminal to handle the increasing volume of travelers, airport authority disclosed today. Its fourth runway is expected to be built around 2013 and the fifth runway is also in planning.

Shanghai's two airports handled more than 70 million passengers last year.
