Rainbow heralds showers, cooler temps
A RAINBOW brightened the sky over the city this morning, leading many netizens to take pictures of the rare scene and post them online.
A resident surnamed Chen said the beauty of the rainbow deeply moved her on her way to work and made her feel it was a lucky day today.
The Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said the rainbow was attributable to showers accompanying a tropical system from the East China Sea.
Today’s high is forecast to be 32 degrees Celsius due to a moist easterly flow produced by the tropical pattern, which will bring frequent scattered showers to Shanghai.
With the end of 15 consecutive days of dry conditions on Saturday, wetter and cooler weather is on the way, with rainy days forecast to pass across the region this week, meteorologists said.
Skies are forecast to be cloudy to overcast today and tomorrow with possible rainfall. The mercury today will range from a low of 27 degrees Celsius to a high of 32 degrees.
Highs midweek will be about 34 degrees Celsius.
A tropical depression that formed in waters southeast of Taiwan was upgraded to this year’s 12th tropical storm, Trami, at 11am yesterday.
The National Meteorological Center forecast that Trami will be approaching the northeastern waters of Taiwan and increasing in strength starting tonight.
“Trami will not affect Shanghai in the next two days. “ said Fu Yi, a forecaster in the weather bureau.
