Rainy, cool weather to remain this week

RAIN should become intermittent in the next few days and the city is forecast to remain cool with a maximum temperature below 30 degrees Celsius.

Today is expected to be overcast with showers while the sky is expected to be cloudy tomorrow.

The mercury should gradually climb in the following days and reach 30 degrees Celsius during the weekend, said the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.

"The city should experience intermittent rain in the next five days since the atmospheric circulation changed in the beginning of September and the cold front from the north became active," said Zhu Jiehua, a chief service officer of the bureau. "It's still unclear whether the temperatures will climb above 30 degrees after the cold front passes."

Rain lasted all day yesterday due to a cold front that held the high to 24.3 degrees Celsius, making it the coolest day since June 27, according to Zhu.

Chongming Island experienced the most rain yesterday with precipitation reaching over 40 millimeters, according to the bureau.

Some floods were reported in northern parts of the city.
