Real-time traffic info will be close at hand

REAL-TIME traffic information during the World Expo will be handy through a variety of multi-media, traffic authorities said yesterday: Websites, printed maps, a hotline, TV and radio, GPS navigation systems and touch-screen inquiry machines.

Website: www.jtcx.sh.cn will show the best routes to the Expo site by public vehicle or private car - and what gates into the Expo are least crowded. It will tell out-of-towners how to take Metro or special coach buses from airports, railway stations and sightseeing bus centers. On cell phones, the address will be www.jtcx.sh.cn/m.

Maps: They'll be free at hotels, railways, express toll lanes and elsewhere. Or download one at http://www.jtcx.sh.cn/. They'll show major buses and Metro lines.

Hotlines: Call 962010 or 12319 for the word on the best routes by Metro or bus. The former line will also tell about Expo shows and activities.

GPS systems: All 4,000 Expo taxis will be equipped with them to help avoid traffic jams. Local drivers can get the information by cell phone.

Touch-screen information kiosks: They'll be in more than 400 hotels, three-star and above in the city.
