Relief from heat on way next week

SHANGHAI is likely to get some relief from the heat next week with the high dropping below 35 degrees Celsius and more showers predicted, forecasters said yesterday.

With the fading of the subtropical high-pressure system above the city, Shanghai should see some weak, cooler airstreams from the sea and the high is likely to drop to around 33 degrees starting Tuesday, said the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.

Cloudy weather should dominate during the next few days, with frequent afternoon thundershowers.

Today will see a mixture of sun and clouds and will be hot, with an expected high of 37 degrees. Tomorrow's forecast is for sunny skies punctuated by a few thundershowers, with readings ranging from a low of 28 degrees to a high of 36.

"The weather in the next few days should not feel as hot with the temperature dropping and the lowering of humidity," said Kong Chun-yan, a chief service officer of the bureau. "Different from the previous stuffy weather, the following days should be dryer with the humidity lowering to 50 percent."
