Research body tells locals to brace for more congestion on roads this year
THE Shanghai Urban-Rural Construction and Transportation Development Research Institute said that with more cars on the roads and major construction projects in the works, the city was likely to see much worse traffic jams this year.
Road and Metro line construction and renovation projects will stall traffic.
The average speed on more than 12 percent of the expressways will be under 40 kilometers per hour during the rush hour.
The likely affected areas are: the stretch between Yangpu and Nanpu bridges; the area between Xiangyin Road and Outer Ring tunnels; Beidi Road in Changning District; Hongmei Road in Xuhui and Minhang districts.
