SK driver gets 1 year for drunk driving

A DRUNKEN South Korean driver was sentenced to one year in prison and fined 9,000 yuan (US$1,464) for knocking down two policemen, the Changning District People's Court said yesterday.

Prosecutors said the driver, surnamed Kim, had some beers with a friend at a restaurant on January 26 midnight. Kim offered to drop his friend home in his car and was stopped by traffic police during a routine check on drunk drivers.

The court heard Kim blew at an alcohol tester for two short breaths and suddenly revved up his car to escape. He ran into a policeman standing in front of his car and then knocked down another further ahead. He was forced to stop after hitting a police car, the court heard.

The alcohol content in Kim's blood was 1.35 milligrams per milliliter, way beyond the legal limit of 0.8 milligrams per milliliter.
