Scattered thunderstorms predicted in Shanghai
THE Shanghai Meteorological Bureau issued a thunder alert this afternoon as thunderstorms are likely to strike parts of the city.
Meanwhile, local temperature reached 38 degrees Celsius at 2:30pm, the highest recorded this year. The bureau said the heat wave will continue over the next five days with the high staying above 35 degrees.
Shanghai has sweltered in the heat wave since June 30, unusually long in the city's history.
The forecasters also said afternoon thundershowers will be frequent in coming days.
