Severe flood season begins

THE city will enter flood season from next Wednesday, the government said yesterday. Areas that are expected to be seriously affected and are being prepared to withstand flooding include more than 20 roads, 120 residential communities and 79 tunnels. The authorities have bought 42 new pump trucks and set up or expanded 100 maintenance teams to deal with emergencies. Shanghai is likely to experience severe flooding this year due to El Nino, the authority said.
