Shanghai cabbie dies in early morning crash

A taxi driver was killed and a passenger was seriously injured at about 1:15am today as the car lost control and hit the guardrail on downtown Zhoujiazui Road, according to xinmin.cn.
The crash happened near the road's intersection with Dalian Road. The car was reportedly driving from east to west on the road when it suddenly lost control and slammed into the center divider guardrail.
The impact crushed the car's front and both the cabbie and the male passenger were severely injured and were in a coma.
They were rushed to a nearby hospital by paramedics but the driver was pronounced dead by doctors and the passenger was in critical condition for a serious head injury.
Police are still investigating the case and it's unclear yet why the driver lost control of the car.
