Shanghai enjoys early summer
IT'S official. Summer is here, the weatherman said.
With average temperatures hovering above 22 degrees Celsius for five straight days, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau has declared that a new season is in.
The bureau said, the first day when the mercury stayed above 22 - last Saturday - was the start of summer.
Summer usually starts in Shanghai around May 28 on average, according to data from the last 30 years.
It arrived 17 days earlier than usual this time. The bureau said it was also the second earliest onset of summer in the last 100 years.
Shanghai's weather turned cloudy and overcast yesterday after a few days of bright sunshine. The maximum temperature dropped to 24.5 degrees Celsius in urban areas - four degrees lower than Tuesday.
Heavy showers are expected today with the high tipped to drop to around 20 degrees and the low around 18.
