Shanghai tourists unhurt by tsunami and volcanic eruption
LOCAL tourism authorities said the tsunami and volcano eruption in Indonesia didn't affect Shanghai tourists as tour groups from the city rarely go to Sumatra Island where the disaster occurred yesterday.
Shanghai Tourism Administration said this afternoon that it did not receive any report of Shanghai tourists getting wounded or killed in Indonesia.
"Our tourists usually go to Bali Island to enjoy sunshine and the beach," said Yang Fan, director of market management with the administration. "They are very far away from the tsunami-hit area and shouldn't be affected."
Meanwhile, China's embassy in Indonesia also said Chinese tourists were in safe condition in the country. Authorities cautioned tourists to stay away from the disaster areas.
