Shanghai-Tianjin flights delayed due to rain
ALL flights between Shanghai and north China's Tianjin municipality were cancelled or delayed today as downpours disrupted air traffic at Tianjin's airport.
Eight flights were cancelled and more than 14 were delayed for at most six hours between Shanghai's two airports and the Tianjin Binhai International Airport as of 4pm.
More than 5,000 passengers were stranded at the Tianjin airport that has issued a flight delay alert as 20 flights were canceled and 34 delayed nationwide.
"Only an incoming flight from Shanghai landed in Tianjin after the rain subsided at 11:32am, and another one took off at 12:08pm," the airport's authority said.
Railway transportation, however, was largely unaffected, including the express rail link to Beijing, the city's railway authorities confirmed.
Tianjin was hit by torrential rain beginning last night and the local meteorological center has issued a storm warning.
Rain hit the northern part of the city the hardest, with 116 millimeters measured so far.
The temperature also dropped 5 degrees Celsius. It is expected that heavy rain will continue for another 12 hours. The meteorological center has warned relevant departments to take precautionary measures.
