Shopping attraction for Disney visitors

A BUSINESS area is to be built around the Shanghai Disneyland Resort in the next five years, with discount outlets and duty-free shops, the Pudong New Area Commerce Commission said yesterday.

Along with the business facilities to be built around the Disneyland resort, which is expected to open to public in 2013, another three commercial centers are expected to be formed by 2015.

They will encircle the Shanghai New International Expo Center, the World Expo site and Pudong International Airport.

The commission said office buildings and more business facilities for exhibitions will be built alongside the Shanghai New International Expo Center. Apart from the Himalayas Center, Kerry Center and the Shangri-La Hotel already in service, about 50,000 square meters of business facilities will be built.

Around the Pudong airport, more travel and cultural facilities are expected to be erected to meet tourists' needs.

The World Expo site will be transformed into a public center, the commission said.

The areas along the Huangpu River in Pudong and Century Avenue will expand the finance circle around the Lujiazui area. High-end shopping centers, restaurants and entertainment venues will be built in the areas, aiming to attract more high-quality talents.

Zhou Bin, a commission official, said the construction of a yacht dock and yacht club had been completed along the Huangpu River.

Five to 10 business communities will be built in the next three years, after the success of the Zendai Thumb Plaza and Linyi community.
