Sitting on carry-on stools on trains unsafe but not against the rules, says Metro authority after complaints surge

THE city's Metro operator said today it's inappropriate and risking safety rules for passengers to carry and sit on stools during rush hours on subways after some netizens exposed photos of such behaviors to complain online.

The Metro authority said it's not rule-breaking for people to take stools into local Metros, given their sizes are in accordance with the limit on carry-on bags. But they would not "encourage" such practice for safety concerns. In crowded carriages, it might be unsafe for people to sit on stools both for themselves and others. The behavior could cause further congestion in the carriages and even stampede in the worst scenario, Metro authority said.

Increasing number of Metro riders are taking small convertible or carry-on stools into Metro carriages so they could secure a place to sit in peak hours. Some angry witnesses have posted photos of such behavior online, complaining these people are causing a harder time for others around who must struggle to keep balance in already crowded carriages to avoid bumping into them on the stools.
