Six hurt as ice causes collision

AT least six people were injured when an airport shuttle bus, a car and a taxi were involved in a collision yesterday.

Ice on the road caused the vehicles to lose control, according to an initial investigation by police.

The accident happened at 6am on an elevated road near Huaxia Road E. Many passengers were sleeping on the Line 2 airport bus when it braked to avoid a taxi in front.

The taxi had hit barriers on the road and the bus failed to avoid it, hitting it and the barrier, police said. A car following the bus failed to stop and ran into the back of it.

Six people were taken to the Pudong New Area People's Hospital.

Two were seriously injured.

A 57-year-old woman surnamed Yao suffered severe head injuries but was said to be out of danger.

Another woman suffered a broken foot and other injuries.

Two people who suffered minor injuries left hospital yesterday.

Some passengers canceled their travel plans. Others transferred to another bus bound for the airport.

The accident was one of several yesterday morning because of the road conditions, police said.
