Snow in the north disrupts flights and railway services
SNOW in northern China led to cancellations or delays in air and rail services between Shanghai and Beijing yesterday.
Some 90 flights between the two cities were delayed and three were cancelled at Shanghai's Hongqiao International Airport. There were no reports of passengers stranded at the airport but thousands of people were stuck at Hongqiao Railway Station in the afternoon when 42 services between the cities were delayed and three canceled because of the weather. Passengers occupied every seat in the station's waiting area, while many others had to sit on the ground.
There was a three-hour delay in the arrival of 24 trains from Beijing and the average delay of all services was 2 hours, Bao Hongzhen, duty director at the station said. Bullet trains on the Shanghai-Beijing route reduced their speed because of the snow.
