‘Spanish platform’ for Line 8

THE third phase of the construction of Metro Line 8 will start this year. Newly designed platforms will enable commuters to get off from the trains from both sides.

The 6.6-kilometer phase with six stops will start from Shendu Highway Station, the current southern terminal of Line 8, and end at Huizhen Road Station.

The section mainly covers the Pujiang Town area in Minhang District.

Structure planning of two stations — Shendu Highway and Sanlu Highway — with new platform designs was announced over the weekend. The design has been nicknamed “Spanish platform,” after a similar design in Barcelona. All six stations of the new phase are elevated. The section will use four-carriage trains.
