Spanner found in valve leading to water cut to 350,000 families in Songjiang
A SPANNER found in a pump valve has been blamed for cutting the water supply to 350,000 families in Songjiang District.
Technicians found a rusted spanner in the valve in Songjiang No. 2 Water Plant.
It may have been left in the valve since its installation in 1995, a technician surnamed Zhao said.
Officials at the water plant would not confirm whether the spanner was the direct cause of the accident, saying relevant archives needed to be checked.
The water supply was cut to 60 square kilometers of the district for 18 hours from early Wednesday morning. The initial leak caused a machine room to flood and the plant's six pumps to shut down.
The water accident investigation team is still looking into the case.
