Spill injures 2, jams traffic
TRAFFIC tie-ups continued after a city expressway ramp was closed as authorities towed a tanker truck filled with propanol that overturned yesterday, injuring two people.
The crash happened at 2:17pm on expressway S32, road authorities said.
Firefighters were called to the scene to spray water to dilute the leaked chemical, a type of clear, colorless liquid alcohol used as a solvent and antiseptic.
"We try to prevent the chemical from spreading into the air," a firefighter said.
Part of the chemical will be buried underground at the site after it's treated, authorities said.
The injured, including the driver, were sent to a hospital, one in serious condition.
The truck was towed in the afternoon but the ramp was still blocked as of 5pm. Vehicles were detoured to other ramps.
