Spring is officially here: now for the cold
SPRING arrived on Sunday. After five straight days of average temperatures above 10 degrees Celsius, spring had officially sprung, weathermen said yesterday.
But a cold front is about to descend on the city, with the maximum expected to drop from yesterday's 23.4 degrees Celsius to 18 degrees today, according to the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.
The mercury should rise to about 20 degrees tomorrow but it will drop again from Sunday. At the beginning of next week, the highs will only range between 13 and 14 degrees. The lows may get down to about 9 degrees.
The cold front will also bring a thunderstorm tomorrow and rain at times on Sunday and Monday.
"This year spring arrived around the average time," said Fu Yi, a forecaster with the bureau. "Since 2000, spring has usually come in March."
