Sprinklers to cool city crowds
A WATER sprinkling system widely used at last year's World Expo to keep crowds cool may appear at the Bund and other downtown leisure spots during the sizzling months ahead.
The Bund sightseeing area management office said it planned to install sprinklers - which emit a fine mist - as the design of the iconic tourist spot offers little shade.
Officials said they are considering designs along the lines of the Expo cool-off sprinkler, which received the thumbs up from crowds queuing to enter pavilions.
Bund officials are seeking a system that can easily be dismantled without damaging Bund sightseeing attractions.
Meanwhile, authorities at Yuyuan Garden, another popular tourist attraction in the city, say they will expand the use of sprinklers this summer after a system with more than 500 nozzles used last year received positive feedback.
Sprinklers have also been installed around the Oriental Pearl TV Tower in Pudong.
