Stickers to be used as temporary entry permits for foreigners availing of 144-hour visa policy

SHANGHAI will start using stick-type temporary entry permits from tomorrow for foreigners to enjoy the 144-hour visa-free transit policy, Shanghai General Station of Immigration Inspection has said.

Immigration inspectors now stamp the entry seal on the passports and write the dates by hand.

Under the new regulation, the inspectors will simply paste stickers on blank pages of their passports when they arrive and stamp the exit seal when they depart that is expected to reduce clearance time for passengers.

The stickers will be printed automatically with all the information of entry permits. They will also include QR codes for local service providers, such as hotels, to identify expats’ information conveniently.

The specially-designed stickers are also said to protect against counterfeit visas.

The 144-hour visa-free transit policy was introduced on January 30 this year to allow citizens from 51 countries to get into China through others ports of entry besides Shanghai -- airports in Nanjing and Hangzhou. They have to provide valid international travel documents and onward air, vessel or train tickets to a third country or region with confirmed date within 144 hours upon arrival.

Airports in Nanjing and Hangzhou, the capital cities of Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces respectively, will also use the stickers, the Shanghai General Station of Immigration Inspection said.
