Stranded tourists return to Shanghai
HUNDREDS of Shanghai tourists stranded in Hainan Province because of typhoon Conson have returned home now that flights from the southern island resumed yesterday.
The Spring International Travel Service Co Ltd said about 200 tourists who were stuck in Hainan returned home over the weekend, one day behind schedule.
Meanwhile, travel agencies said the typhoon didn't disrupt business too much.
Hundreds of flights at Shanghai's airports were delayed or canceled on Friday evening after Conson slammed the province.
Shanghai Travel Service Co said about 10 tourists asked to cancel their trips while most asked to postpone their vacations.
"The typhoon didn't cause us much loss," said Zhang Jianquan, deputy general manager of the company. "Usually many students go to Sanya for a summer holiday, but this year, apparently many of them prefer to watch the World Expo at home."
