Subway adopts user鈥檚 plan to cut congestion
THE city’s subway operator last week adjusted the way in which passengers move through Shanghai Indoor Stadium station following a suggestion from a member of the public.
Shanghai Shentong Group said that after seeing a Weibo post by a man surnamed Chen it changed the flow of people near the station’s No. 1 exit.
Chen said online that the area was a bottleneck, where people trying to leave the station converged with those trying to move from Line 1 to Line 4.
After studying his ideas, which came complete with illustrations, Shentong decided to reverse the direction of two escalators, and add more barriers to keep the two groups of people apart, it said.
All of the changes were made within 24 hours of Chen’s post being made, the company said.
“We thank Chen for his advice and welcome all suggestions relating to safety,” said Wu Xinyi, director of its Party committee office.
