Summer to be very hot

SHANGHAI will experience two typhoons, and between five and eight “very hot” days this summer, forecasters said yesterday. The highest temperature will be 39 degrees Celsius, while on at least five other days, the mercury will hit 37 degrees. The two typhoons will be stronger than in previous years and will pose a threat to the city, officials said. In anticipation of the downpours, flood-prevention authorities have repaired levees across the city and have opened a new pumping station in downtown Hongkou District.
