Sun gives way to cloudy days

CLOUDY, cooler weather is forecast for this week, with temperatures down to the mid-teens, forecasters said yesterday.

This follows a sunny weekend that saw many city residents take to the outdoors, with many visiting local parks.

But under the influence of a weak cold front, highs this week will be around 15 degrees Celsius, with lows of 9 degrees, said the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.

It will be dry for the early part of the week, but rain is forecast on Thursday as a low pressure front arrives.

Showers are forecast for Thursday and Friday, with temperatures similar to earlier in the week.

The city’s Air Quality Index stood at “heavily polluted” in the early hours of yesterday, with a reading of above 200, said the Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center.

However, by 6am yesterday this had improved to “good.”

Stronger winds yesterday morning dispersed the lingering pollutants, said the meteorological bureau.

Good air quality is forecast for today, said the monitoring center.
