Sun-dried October to end with rain, cold
A WET and cloudy day is on the cards for today, and the showers are set to remain throughout the week, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said yesterday.
The rains, brought by an area of low pressure, will come as a relief to local farmers, whose crops have been parched throughout an unusually warm October in which it has so far rained on just one day.
As of yesterday, the level of precipitation this October in the city’s downtown area is the third-lowest — after 1979 and 1982 — since records began in 1951.
Along with the wet will come a steep drop in temperature this week, the forecasters said.
The mercury today will range between 17 and 21 degrees Celsius, while from Thursday through Saturday, the highs will be 22 to 23 degrees with corresponding lows of 18 to 20 degrees.
The arrival of a cold front on Sunday will see the mercury dip still further, to between 15 and 19 degrees, the bureau said.
