Taiwan universities to make debut at industry fair in Shanghai

SIX universities from Taiwan will make a debut at the 15th China International Industry Fair to display advanced technology such as an advanced wind turbine blade, local education authorities said today.

A total of 66 universities, including four from Japan and South Korea, will display cutting-edge technologies ranging from effluent treatment and smart city traffic monitoring and service to terahertz security check equipment and an eco-friendly automatic sorting trash can.

Tongji University will display a new type of electric vehicle with a fuel cell, while the Shanghai Second Polytechnic University will showcase a robot that can mop the floor. The University of Shanghai for Science and Technology will display the advanced technology of a terahertz security check that could detect dangerous items like guns, knives and lighters, which have a low quantity of radiant energy, while having a low rate of false positives.

The fair will run from November 5 to 9 at the Shanghai New International Expo Center in the Pudong New Area.
