Tall tale as tower sets record

THE Shanghai World Financial Center celebrated its first anniversary with a unique birthday gift as its Observatory earned a Guinness World Record for being the highest observation deck in the world.

The observation deck on the 100th floor is an impressive 477.96 meters above sea level. It features a special 55-meter-long transparent floor, allowing those brave enough to stand on it to enjoy spectacular views of Shanghai.

Craig Glenday, chief editor of Guinness World Records, presented the World Record Certificate yesterday to Akio Yoshimura, president of Shanghai World Financial Center Co Ltd.

"I feel really honored and we will work harder in the future to showcase the city's charm to visitors from all over the world," Yoshimura said.

Park Hyatt Shanghai, which occupies the 79th to 93rd floors of the skyscraper, was also recognized as the highest hotel in the world by Guinness World Records yesterday.
