Taxi cheating up

SHANGHAI'S taxi watchdog said yesterday there were 37 cases in which it had caught cabbies using tampered meters to cheat passengers in the first half this year. That's a 7.2 percent rise over last year, officials said.
They nabbed four such cheats within two days on June 8 and 9 when the passengers were scammed more than 20,000 yuan (US$3,096).
