Thief on train roof puts Metro Line 2 to a halt
A fleeing thief climbed onto a subway train roof this morning during the rush hour, halting the operation of Metro Line 2 for 40 minutes and stranding thousands of passengers.
The episode occurred around 8:45am at the Metro's Lujiazui Station, said the Metro operator.
The thief first ran into the tunnel after he was found stealing in the train and then he climbed onto the train's roof, forcing it to stop.
Metro staff cut the power in the tunnel and alerted the police who soon caught the thief. Police said the man was not injured.
Thousands of passengers were stranded in stations along Metro Line 2 and Metro operator had to limit the number of commuters coming into the stations. Metro operation resumed at about 9:30am.
Police said the culprit had stolen a wallet with cash and cards in it. The case is still under investigation.
