Three days of rain forecast for holiday
LOCALS will have to spend the May Day holiday, which falls between Sunday and Tuesday, in the rain as Shanghai will see drizzle or thunderstorms on all three days of the holiday, forecasters said yesterday.
Rain will sweep the entire Yangtze River Delta Region, and locals are reminded to take umbrellas with them and be careful on the road during holiday trips. The temperature will be stable as a cold front from the north is weak, weathermen said.
Tomorrow will see thundershowers with lows of 18 degrees Celsius and highs of 23 degrees.
It will be cloudy with drizzle on Monday with readings between 17 and 21 degrees. On Tuesday, more showers are expected, with temperatures of 17 to 23 degrees.
Shanghai's Metro network will face enormous traffic during the holiday. While average subway turnover is 6.5 million people, the turnover today should reach a record-breaking of 7.4 million people.
Local hospitals will stop routine outpatient services from tomorrow to Tuesday, while emergency service will be available all day and night.
The city's scenic lighting will be on during the entire May Day holiday, said the Shanghai Greenery and Public Sanitation Bureau.
The lighting at major tourist spots and business centers will be on from today to Tuesday between 6:30pm and 10:30pm.
