Thundershowers to continue this week
The current thundershowers, caused by the plum rain belt moving southwards, will likely remain this week, weather forecasters said today.
The morning downpour produced a rainfall of 30 millimeters in Chongming County between 8am and 11am, the heaviest among all districts. Benchmark Xujiahui weather station recorded rainfall at 14 millimeters.
The Shanghai Meteorological Bureau issued a yellow lightning alert at 1:53am and a yellow rainstorm alert at 8:52am for showers and thunder. The city's central and northern areas received more rains than the others.
The rains are expected to stop tonight but since the plum rain belt edges closer to the city, more rains are expected in the days ahead.
Today’s high is forecast to be 29 degrees Celsius with more rains pushing it up to 33 degrees.
