Tickets sell fast for tours over holidays

SOME shorter tours still have some tickets available during the National Day holidays but long-distance routes are sold out, travel agencies said yesterday.

"Bookings have far exceeded our expectations," said Yu Weihua, general manager of Shanghai China International Travel Service Co Ltd. "Our overseas tours have all been booked out across more than 20 countries and regions."

Flights to long-distance destinations within China are solidly booked out, with the most popular destinations being Yunnan Province, Guilin in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Xiamen in Fujian Province, and the Three Gorges Dam area in Hubei Province.

There are still tickets available for tours to Qiandao Lake, Tianmu Lake and Yandang Mountain in Zhejiang Province, Lianyungang in Jiangsu Province and Huangshan Mountain in Anhui Province, according to Shanghai Travel Service Agency.

People can also buy tickets from Shanghai's tour bus centers. So far, more than 12,000 tickets have been booked through the centers, a 50 percent increase on the same time last year.

"More people are expected to buy tickets for day trips on the day they want to travel. We'll make sure we have enough buses to get people to their desired destinations," said official Shen Lin.

She said there were tours to five destinations with cheaper prices on the last two days of the eight-day holiday so tourists could avoid the crowded peak times.

"This is the first time people have had such a long holiday, and good weather will encourage more people to get out and about," she said.
