Time to wrap up as cold sets in
THE mercury is set to fall to 2 degrees Celsius today with a high of no more than 8, forecasters said.
The low will remain unchanged tomorrow and Sunday, though both days are expected to be sunny and the high temperature should rise to about 11 degrees, they said.
Monday will be overcast with a high in the low teens, though Tuesday will be much chillier as a new cold front rolls into town.
Shanghai residents woke up to heavy smog yesterday, with the PM2.5 concentration in the air peaking at about 150 micrograms per cubic meter as early as 8am.
The reading was exactly six times the World Health Organization’s safe level of 25 micrograms per cubic meter.
Yesterday’s air quality index peaked at 202, but winds in the afternoon helped disperse the pollution and it fell to 86 at 5pm.
The pollution had been carried on winds from the north, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said.
