Timing to minimize impact
THE renovation of the People’s Square Metro Station will start on January 17 to minimize the impact on commuters, the Metro operator said on Saturday.
The renovation, which affects Lines 1 and 8, was originally set to begin this Saturday. It will end on February 10. The station will be partially shut during the renovation. Trains on Lines 1 and 8 will not stop at the station, while Line 2 will continue running but passengers will not be able to transfer to the other two lines.
The renovation of another two stations, Zhangjiang High Technology Park on Line 2 and Shendu Highway on Line 8, will remain as scheduled.
Choosing the timing around the Spring Festival, which falls on January 28, is to ease the impact on commuters as the period sees the lowest traffic of the year on the Metro network.
