Tomorrow set to bring the 1st rain this month

UNSEASONABLY dry weather is set to come to an end tomorrow with the first rain of October, city forecasters said yesterday.
A wet day with the high temperature dropping from 28 degrees Celsius to 24 is expected, said the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.
The rain is being brought by the combined influence of low pressure and a cold front, added the bureau.
Despite the rainy skies predicted tomorrow, most of the week will be dry, although overcast, they added.
Today will see a continuation of recent sunny days, with the mercury climbing to 28 degrees.
However, tomorrow’s rain will herald the arrival of lower temperatures, with lows of 15 degrees and highs of 23 degrees, said forecasters.
The bureau said no rain has been recorded so far this October, a rare occurrence in the city’s weather only recorded in 1955 and 1979. Typically, Shanghai sees precipitation of between 60 and 70 millimeters in October.
Experts said this year’s unusually dry spell can be attributed to a strong front of high pressure that has dominated the city’s weather this month.
According to the Shanghai Environmental Monitoring Center, city air quality on most days this month has been “good,” the second lowest of a six-tier scale.
Thursday marks solar term shuangjiang — which means frost descends — traditionally signifying dropping temperatures and the arrival of frost.
