Tourists trapped by mudslide in Zhejiang
More than 40 tourists from Shanghai, trapped by a rain-triggered mudslide in Pan'an County, eastern Zhejiang Province, have been brought to safety, local police said this morning.
The group still could not leave the mountain area as the only road has been cut off by the mudslide, police said.
A Weibo blogger who claimed to be a group member, complained in a post that Shanghai Everbright International Travel Agency, their tour operator, ignored the typhoon warning and insisted on visiting Pan'an yesterday.
An Everbright manager surnamed Zhang assured the group that their hotel is absolutely safe, but when they arrived this morning, the hotel had been damaged by the mudslide, the Weibo blogger said.
Typhoon Haikui brought downpours and flooding in Zhejiang after it landed in Xiangshan County early this morning.
