Traffic flows as Pudong roads make connection

The ring roads' legs in Pudong New Area opened to traffic last night.

The Inner Ring Road finally formed a complete circle after the Puxi section opened as early as 1994.

The Middle Ring Road in Pudong was only partly opened because of unfinished construction and some ramps are still closed.

Meanwhile, the Huaxia Elevated Road, connecting Pudong's Middle Ring Road with Pudong International Airport, also opened.

This will make the journey from the Pudong airport to Puxi's downtown just 30 minutes and 60 minutes to Hongqiao International Airport. The route is expected to take 70 percent of passenger flow to the Pudong airport.

It will also serve the future Disneyland Resort in Chuansha area.

The three projects cost 24.2 billion yuan (US$3.5 billion) and it took more than two years to complete the 9.92-kilometer Inner Ring Road and 15.55-kilometer Middle Ring Road in Pudong and the 15.6-kilometer Huaxia Elevated Road.
