Traffic to be restricted for next week’s summit

SHANGHAI traffic police have put  major roads, rails and ferry restrictions in place for the regional Asian summit in the city next week.

The city will host the Shanghai Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia from May 20 to 21.

Enclosed areas in Lujiazui, People’s Square and the World Expo site in Pudong (see map) will be completely off-limits to both vehicles and pedestrians at certain times from Monday to Wednesday. Some downtown roads, elevated highway and tunnels will also be restricted to vehicles.

On Tuesday, the Puxi-to-Pudong section of the Yan’an Road E. tunnel will be out-of-bounds from 4pm-6pm and 8:30pm-10pm.

The Pudong-to-Puxi section will be blocked from 6:45pm-8pm.

No vehicles will be allowed from 4pm-6pm on the west-to-east direction on the Yan’an Elevated Road, and east-to-west from 8:30pm-10pm.

The section of Xizang Road M. from Nanjing Road E. to Jinling Road E. will be completely cordoned off from 6:45pm-8pm and 8:30pm-10pm.

On Wednesday, Nanpu Bridge will be off-limits to all vehicles from 8:30am-10am and 4:30pm-6:30pm.

On the same day, the Inner Ring Road will be inaccessible between its Ruijin Road ramp and Nanpu Bridge from 8:30am-9:45am, and between Nanpu Bridge to Wanping Road ramp from 4:30pm to 5:30pm. As for the North-South Elevated Road, traffic will be blocked on its section between Beijing Road ramp to Lupu Bridge from 8:30am-9:45am, and between Lupu Bridge to Weihai Road ramp 4:30pm to 5:30pm.

Also on May 21, Pudong Road S. will be closed between Eshan and Sanliqiao roads from 8:45am-10am and 4:30pm-6:30pm.

Metro, ferry restrictions

There will also be restrictions at certain Metro stations, shipping lanes and the Bund sightseeing tunnel.

The No. 4 and No. 5 exits of Lujiazui Station on Metro Line 2 will be closed from 2pm-9pm on May 20.

The No. 2 exit at People’s Square Station of Metro Line 1, 2, 8 will not be available from 4pm-10pm.

The No. 4 exit of China Art Museum Station on Line 8 will be closed from 6am-7pm on May 21.

Ferries from Jinling Road E. to Dongchang Road terminals and Taitongzhan to Gongping Road terminals on the Huangpu River will be suspended between 4pm-7pm on Tuesday.

Services will also be stopped from 8:30am-10am and 4:30pm-6:30pm on Wednesday.

Services from and to Tangqiao-Dongjiadu, Nanmatou-Lujiabang roads and Yangjiadu to Fuxing Road E. will also be suspended at the same time.

The popular tourist Bund sightseeing tunnel will be closed from 10pm on May 19 to 9pm on May 20.
