Transfer stations for 鈥淓xpo theme line鈥
THREE new interchange stations are set to open next weekend on Shanghai’s Metro Line 13 — “Expo theme line.”
The line, built to carry visitors to the 2010 World Expo, currently has only seven stations and runs from Jinyun Road in Jiading District to Jinshajiang Road in Putuo District.
Three stations that closed following the Expo are set to reopen next year, along with a number of new stops, said the Shanghai Metro Line 13 Development Co Ltd.
But more immediately, stops are opening at Longde Road, an interchange to Line 11, and Wuning Road and Changshou Road, from where passengers can transfer to Line 7.
At Longde Road and Changshou Road, escalators will take passengers to the interchange hall on the ground floor, said officials.
Passengers who don’t mind a climb can use steps linking the platforms within 30 seconds, they added.
Times and train intervals will remain the same, though more trains will be added to services for the longer network, said officials.
By the end of next year, new stops will open in Jing’an and Huangpu districts and the network will connect with the currently closed Expo special line and extend further into the Pudong New Area.
Stops are due to open at Jiangning Road, Hanzhong Road, Shanhaiguan Road, Nanjing Road W., Huaihai Road M. and Xintiandi..
Xintiandi will connect with the three-station Expo special line, which offered a free service during the World Expo between May and October 2010 and then closed.
These Expo stops — Puxi’s Madang Road, Lupu Bridge and Pudong’s Expo Avenue — will reopen next year.
And from Expo Avenue the line will extend into the Pudong New Area.
Line 13 is also the only line in the city’s subway network that has a different theme color for each stations and also has depictions of Expo features inside the stations.
“We’re introducing expo elements as reminders of the World Expo in Shanghai, as if the curtain never fell on the event,” said You Xudong, general manager of the Shanghai Metro Line 13 Development Co. Ltd.
Line 13 is also expected to become the city’s first Metro line to offer free WiFi, currently being trialed, officials said.
