Travel rush numbers

MORE than 40 million trips in and out of Shanghai are forecast during the Spring Festival travel rush, up 4.8 percent on last year. The 40-day rush starts on January 13, the earliest start to the festival rush for five years.
The city’s transportation commission said nearly 22 million of the trips were for leaving Shanghai, with just over 19 million coming into the city.
Shanghai’s three railway stations are expected to farewell just over 11 million passengers during the travel rush, up 3.3 percent, while the two airports will see 5.9 million leave.
