Trial run for city’s new tunnel

CHANGJIANG Road Tunnel, Huangpu River’s newest and widest tunnel, will undergo trial operations from Saturday, the city’s transport commission said yesterday.

With the newly connected tunnel in operation, residents living in northern Shanghai will have an alternative river crossing, rather than having to rely on the Outer Ring Road Tunnel.

The new tunnel, which is 4,912 meters long, connects Changjiang Road and Shuangjiang Road. It has six lanes and three exits, one on Gangcheng Road in Pudong, the other two in Puxi — one on Changjiang Road W., the other on Jungong Road.

Because of construction of the second phase of Metro Line 10, trucks will not be allowed to use the tunnel from Saturday to November 18.

The operation of the tunnel may be adjusted because of the Metro construction.
