Tunnel renovations complete

MAJOR renovations on the Fuxing Road E. Tunnel under the Huangpu River have been completed after two months officials said yesterday.
Drivers may even have been unaware that work was being carried out as only part was closed and work took place during the night, said Mu Zhenqiang, project manager with the Shanghai Urban Construction Municipal Engineering Group.
The team resurfaced the road and installed new traffic monitoring and electricity systems, he said.
“It will now be safer and more comfortable driving through the tunnel,” he added.
The 2,780-meter two-level tunnel with six lanes connecting the Pudong and Puxi areas opened in October 2004,
It was the city’s fifth tunnel across the river.
