Tunnel to be built under road to help ease congestion

TO relieve traffic pressure in the Caohejing area during the rush hour, the construction of a tunnel on Tianlin Road under the Middle Ring Road has started.

Currently, citizens and visitors have to take detours to the already busy Caobao Road and Yishan Road, two of its parallel streets, as the Middle Ring Road cuts Tianlin Road off.

They will be able to drive all the way on Tianlin Road when the tunnel project opens. It is scheduled to be completed next year.

The five-lane tunnel will be 1 kilometer in length, but only 696 meters of it will be actually underground. It will run from Gumei Road to Guiping Road.

The lane in the middle will be open to traffic from Minhang District in the west to Xuhui District in the east during the morning rush hour, and reverse in the evening.
